The black mulberry tree is a deciduous tree native to southwestern Asia. It grows to a height of approximately 12 meters with large green leaves that are rough on the top and downy on the underside. The dark purple, almost black, berries are edible and have been cultivated for millenia across Mesopotamia, Persia, and the Levant.
