Judas Tree

Hebrew Nameכליל החורש

The Judas Tree, also known as a Redbud or Love Tree, is a small deciduous tree native to western Asia and best known for its prolific display of deep pink flowers every spring. It grows to a height of 10 to 12 meters.

The name “Judas Tree” is likely a derivative of the name Judea, the geographical region where this tree was very well known. At some point, a myth developed that Judas Iscariot hanged himself from a tree of this species, causing its white flowers to turn red.
